Garderos GmbH has developed a software solution for its router hardware that consists of three essential components:
- Garderos Router Software (GRS) – the powerful router operating system
- Garderos Configuration Server (GCS) – the central management system for the configuration and firmware of a large network of geographically distributed routers
- Virtual RTU – a software application that enables decentralized data collection and forwarding.
Garderos Router Software (GRS)
The Garderos Router Software (GRS) is the heart of our routers and is completely based on Linux. It is installed on all routers supplied by Garderos and provides the same standardized management interface for all Garderos router families.
By supporting common standard protocols such as SNMP, RADIUS and SSH, GRS enables seamless integration and management of network resources. It also provides a standard HTTPS interface for updating router configuration and firmware.
Garderos Configuration Server
Garderos GmbH understands that every customer has individual requirements for their network infrastructure. For this reason, we have developed a highly flexible architecture based on the router operating system (GRS) and the configuration server (GCS). This ensures that the network installation is tailored to each specific need.
Virtual RTU (vRTU)
In addition to GRS and GCS, Garderos offers the virtual RTU (vRTU) as an application. The product runs in an LXC software container on GRS and is aimed at operators of electricity, gas and water networks.
Running the Virtual RTU software on the router itself saves the hardware cost, space requirements and operating costs of a physical RTU. This simultaneously enables secure and efficient communication with remote devices via the Modbus RTU protocol and can convert the collected data into Sparkplug MQTT or IEC 60870-5-104 (IEC-104).
