Why is the EUTC so important?

The European Utilities Telecom Council (EUTC) plays a central role in the further development of standards, technologies and political frameworks in the EU. Its goal is to make it easier for utilities to procure reliable, cost-effective and future-proof products and services for smart grids.

This is done through close cooperation with:

• energy suppliers – to identify technical challenges and optimize the network infrastructure
• technology providers – to provide innovative solutions for critical communications networks
• Regulatory authorities at national and EU level – to shape the political framework for the digitalization of the energy sector

Garderos at the EUTC Annual Meeting in Brussels

Last week Garderos GmbHtook part in the EUTC annual meeting in Brussels. Our colleague Paul Cullen presented Garderos’ innovative router solutions, which were specifically developed for the demanding requirements of smart grids and energy suppliers.

Strategic partnership: Garderos GmbH and Wireless Logic mdex GmbH present the innovative Garderos Router R-7928 with integrated KRITIS-SIM at the E-world energy & water (11. – 13.02. in Essen)

The Garderos router impresses with its versatility, as it supports both the private LTE network of 450connect GmbH and the conventional LTE mobile network. This is particularly invaluable for customers in the energy industry, as in most cases both technologies are required. While 450connect is primarily used for critical applications, it also serves as a fallback solution in the event of a possible failure of the LTE network. Future 5G technologies, such as 5G RedCap, can also be easily integrated.

We also guarantee a product life cycle of at least 15 years for our industrial routers, which is due to the sustainable availability of important hardware components as well as our own software support for the router operating system.

Wireless Logic mdex GmbH supports flexible access to private and public mobile networks with the Conexa KRITIS-SIM ( eUICC ). This SIM card can store multiple network profiles that can be conveniently changed via OTA (over the air), eliminating the need to physically swap SIM cards.

Thanks to the permanently soldered Conexa eSIM card, the router’s promise of quality also extends to the SIM card and the associated connectivity. Potential weak points such as corroded SIM card contacts, dirt, moisture or even misuse are effectively avoided.

The KRITIS SIM from Wireless Logic mdex also offers extensive security features, including anomaly detection. If the communication pattern changes within the defined user group, this is immediately detected, localized and appropriate countermeasures are initiated. This fulfills essential requirements of the NIS 2 Regulation.

The solution enables companies to respond quickly to potential security and operational risks before they cause significant damage.

Wireless Logic mdex also offers the Garderos industrial router type R-7928 as a full-service package. In addition to the router with integrated KRITIS SIM, this also includes customer-specific configuration and tariff design as well as device management, anomaly detection and security-critical firmware updates as a service.

This model eliminates investments in hardware as well as costs for storage and equipment service. A fixed monthly service fee covers all costs, including the replacement of any defective equipment.

Garderos industrial router at the Verkosto trade fair in Finland – Emtele Automation presents innovative solutions

At this year’s Verkosto trade fair in Tampere, Finland, our sales partner Emtele Automation presented the robust industrial routers from Garderos GmbH. The substation-specific 4G/5G routers with a product life of at least 15 years were a central element of Emtele’s managed service offering.

As an established partner for Finnish utilities, Emtele Automation not only brings technical know-how about Garderos products, but is also an expert in managed services, IP networks, SCADA/RTU and cybersecurity.

Smart Grid Innovations in Focus

The Verkosto fair revolved around the latest developments in the smart grid industry in Finland. Numerous leading energy suppliers took the opportunity to learn about the benefits of managed services for secure remote connections and their impact on critical network infrastructures.

High demand for Emtele/Garderos solutions

Experts from the energy industry showed particularly great interest in the following solutions:

• Ruggedized 4G/5G router – specifically designed to withstand extreme temperatures and ensure reliable wireless communications in harsh environments.
• Garderos Virtual RTU – an innovative solution that reduces the space and cost of a physical RTU by allowing devices to be read remotely via Modbus.
• Maximized cybersecurity for utility networks – through the use of the Garderos Configuration Server, automatic digital certificate management and continuous monitoring of CVE vulnerabilities.
